Okay, like Dean, most of the fandom are questioning Ruby's motives. To be honest, I've personally given her the benefit of the doubt most of the time. Now, I'm not so sure. I know the purpose of this episode might have been to strengthen our faith in her, but I now feel completely the opposite.

When we get the first real flashback, Sam is shown getting stupidly drunk and summoning a crossroads demon. As an aside, I think half the fandom who support the slash were dying for a deal to be made so the male demon and Sam could kiss. Anyway, that demon told Sam that he wouldn't switch Dean for him. Why? Because Lillith and her minions have everything exactly as they want it. They don't care for Sam dead anymore because, as everyone knows, Sam's nothing without Dean (and vice versa). Neither boy can function without the other. So how does Sam solve this? He kills the demon bastard.

Now, fastforward a bit to the flashback with Ruby. She and this other demon tagteam Sam and have him pinned to a wall. She tells Sam that she convinced Lillith to let her out of Hell, after doing some supposedly unspeakable things, and she has to kill Sam when she goes upside.

THAT IS WHERE THE CONTRADICTION IS!!!

First, Lillith is all gungho and happy with Sam alive because he's being tormented and suffering without his brother. He is no immediate threat anymore. Then barely any time later (I'm not sure if that scene came right after Sam killing the second crossroads guy but it was definitely close to then because they both had the caption "Six months earlier")  she wants Ruby to go kill Sam?! That doesn't make any sense.

Also, there's been a lot of loafting around when it's come to any demon killing Ruby. That one guy who had her against the wall could have easily done away with her but he almost waited for Sam to come kill him.
 

My theory? I think Ruby has her own motives. This bullshit about remembering being a human is ridiculous. Ruby hasn't shown much remorse in the past for her actions and was ready to kill people when she had to. I find it hard to believe that she really minded doing anything for Lillith in hell. I can only imagine her being Lilllith's number one guy or girl or whatever you want to call her. Lillith is getting Ruby to seduce and use Sam for their own evil demonic plans.I've heard mumblings from other fans who think that Sam will be the vessel for Lucifer to possess. That's a very good idea and I think that all this preparing that Ruby's been doing with Sam, in terms of using his creepy boy wonder powers, is how they're preparing his body for Lucifer.

I JUST REMEMBERED SOMETHING ELSE!! (That could possibly add to my theory). In the last episode of the third season (No Rest For The Wicked), Dean had trapped and left Ruby in a devil's trap. Then magically she had gotten out (I'm not sure if it was already Lillith by this point) and then she turned on the boys inside the house. We've never heard, before then, about a demon kicking another demon out of their body. It really doesn't seem logical, especially considering they're (Ruby and Lilltih) both pretty high level demons (Ruby can walk on hallowed ground?!?!). What if Ruby let Lillith have her body to trick the boys?  SCANDAL!

So, moral of my story, Ruby's most likely a con artist and working hand in hand with Lillith. Sam's too twisted and naive to see it and now he's convinced Dean (sort of) which is ridiculous because NOW WHICH BOY WILL SEE THE LYING SKANK DEMON WITHIN HER!??!

Phew, that was a lot longer than I had originally intended.
